Vendor-managed inventory programs typically involve:

  • Procurement of products, typically a fixed set of part numbers or product lines.
  • Vendor management and quality assurance.
  • Responsibility for product traceability.
  • Management of certifications and manufacturers’ documentation.
  • Order fulfillment and delivery to a specified customer location or locations.

Vendor-managed inventory programs may also include the following:

  • API’s ESPSM system.
  • Responsibility for forecasting demand and providing specific levels of guaranteed product availability (up to 100 percent).
  • Inventory ownership.
  • Requirements to utilize specific communication protocols with the customer (e.g., Aeroxchange or SPEC2000).
