Vendor-managed inventory programs typically involve:
- Procurement of products, typically a fixed set of part numbers or product lines.
- Vendor management and quality assurance.
- Responsibility for product traceability.
- Management of certifications and manufacturers’ documentation.
- Order fulfillment and delivery to a specified customer location or locations.
Vendor-managed inventory programs may also include the following:
- API’s ESPSM system.
- Responsibility for forecasting demand and providing specific levels of guaranteed product availability (up to 100 percent).
- Inventory ownership.
